Keeping your wood floors in top shape is easier than you might think! With the right care, your engineered wood floor will stay beautiful for years. Light-colored floors tend to show wear and tear more easily than darker ones, so they might need a bit more attention. Our wood floors are designed to be durable and easy to clean, but here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Dry cleaning is the best way to clean hardwood floors, rather than wet cleaning. Vacuum and brush regularly and occasionally use a damp, well wrung-out cloth/mop. For best results, use Kährs Cleaner diluted in water or ready-mixed Kährs Spray Cleaner. The floor should dry within a minute if you’ve used the right amount of water. Remember that beech and hard maple floors are extra sensitive to moisture.

Remove marks as soon as possible using Kährs Cleaner diluted in water. Avoid cleaning fluids containing ammonia.
Oiled floors: Strong stain removing agents and hard scrubbing can lead to discolouring. Oil the cleaned area with Kährs Satin Oil. If there is a colour difference after removing the stain, you can use a coloured Kährs Touch-up oil.
Lacquered floors: Strong stain removing agents and hard scrubbing can affect the lacquer.

Oiled floors should be treated directly after installation and once a year thereafter. Both oiled and lacquered floors can be freshened up when the wood floor becomes hard to clean or if the surface gets scratched or dull.
Oiled floors: Use Kährs Satin Oil.
Lacquered floors: Use Kährs Lacquer Refresher.

Use Kährs Satin Oil for shallow dents and scratches. For deeper scratches, use Kährs Touch Up Oil. For very deep dents, scratches and cracks, first fill with Kährs Hard Wax or Kährs Wood Filler.

Lacquered floors
The factory-lacquered surfaces of Kährs wood floors can be strengthened with a further coat of lacquer to improve moisture resistance. This will not be necessary, however, if they will be used in a context similar to a domestic environment. Please note that an additional layer of lacquer may change the appearance of the floor's surface.
Day-to-day cleaning should be carried out using dry methods. When using a combi-machine, use as little water as possible. Any residual water should be dried within one minute.
Do not allow the lacquer to become worn. This will avoid dirt and water penetrating the wood, ensuring the floor will retain its easy-clean surface.
If the floor is very worn, or needs renovation for some other reason, it can be machine-sanded to bare wood and have a new surface treatment applied.
Oiled floors
The factory-oiled surface should be reinforced with Kährs Satin Oil directly after installation. Day-to-day cleaning should be based on dry methods such as vacuuming or sweeping, as use of water and cleaning agents increases the need for further maintenance.
Wood floors require regular oil treatments. The frequency of treatments depends on its use and amount of foot traffic. Note that areas that are subject to greater wear than the rest of the floor can be partly treated.
If simply renovating the surface treatment is insufficient, the wood floor can be machine-sanded down to clean wood, then re-oiled.
